City visits
*Visits subject to a minimum number of participants. The COAC reserves the right to cancel an itinerary if an insufficient number of registrations is not reached. Barcelona is a city with a great architectural tradition, visited and enjoyed by more than 7,500,000 people each year. The WSB14 Barcelona Conference wants to offer its attendees and companions the possibility of visiting this marvellous city from a different point of view: from the point of view of sustainability. The COAC, Col•legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya, has designed a sustainable architecture itinerary in Barcelona for all those attending this Conference organised by GBCe (Green Building Council España), combining a tour on foot and one on the city’s tram. The first part of the itinerary will be focused on how to renovate historic architectural heritage using contemporary criteria. The facilities of the Pompeu Fabra University, in the Ciutadella neighbourhood, will be the main focal point of the visit. These buildings make use of sustainability criteria, reusing existing infrastructures and natural resources such as existing water deposits. After that, we will move on to the “Las Glorias” area to visit the new sustainable architecture projects in the 22@ and Poblenou, where several criteria have been used: facility centralisation, heterogeneous mix of building uses, and innovative management of infrastructures and facilities.
